Error[edit]

There seems to be duplicate amount of boxes at the bottom of this article, for no apparent reason? Mark272 11:20, 22 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Match venues[edit]

Dale added venues for home matches nearly a year ago, is there any good source for this? [1][2] Conscious 18:37, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Conference North and South[edit]

I think there should be individual articles for these leagues for the 2007-08 season, as the standard of football in lower leagues seems to be improving.

Managerial changes[edit]

User:HornetMike seemed to make a suggestion earlier today that caretakers maybe ought to be italicised when they take over fully to show they were in charge. How about we amend the appointment date to the date he took over as caretaker and add two references. One for the day he took over as caretaker. And the second when he was officially announced as the new boss? Peanut4 17:05, 2 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think this should be handed slightly differently to List of English Football League managers by date of appointment. The policy you suggest is what's done over there, but I'm not sure it works here. I think providing the permanent date is more useful, as it's a given generally that the caretaker has been in place since the departure of the previous manager. When this is not the case, I think we should still have the full appointment date, but have a second reference stating "so and so became caretaker manager on *date* two days after the departure of Mr whatever". The other reason I'm slightly uneasy about using the caretaker date is that the table tends to use dates for when a replacement has been officially confirmed, I think this might be a bit inconsistent. Youth teams[edit]

Should we not add the results of the youth teams such as the U21s to this article. Darryl.matheson (talk) 19:41, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Phil O'Donnell's death[edit]

How is his death clasified as a subject of English football? It can be classified as Scottish football and British football, but not English football. Kingjeff (talk) 02:59, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

He has played in English football. Take a glance through the other deaths, because many are similar. Peanut4 (talk) 14:56, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It is definietely a subject of English football, as he spent 4 years at an English club (Sheffield Wednesday), although he is best remembered for his career in Scotland. Sir Stanley 19:24, 3 January 2009

??[edit]

I'm not big on Football terminology, but under "End of Season Movement", this doesnt make any sense:

Champions: 1 from Manchester United or Chelsea Champions League 2008/9 Qualifiers : Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool UEFA Cup 2008/9 Qualifiers :Tottenham Hotspurs, ::one from Everton or Aston Villa and 1 from Portsmouth or Cardiff City Relegated to The Championship : Derby County and 2 from Birmingham City, Reading, Fulham and Bolton Wanderer —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tommyhaych (talkcontribs) 17:48, 4 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

pompey FA Cup win[edit]

Should be included in Events, particularly if champions league and Carling cup are included —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.105.147.255 (talk) 00:04, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It is mentioned, see here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007-08_in_English_football#Honours —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pullshapes (talkcontribs) 00:44, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

England[edit]

Should the England manager change be included in the manager changes section as the article title is English Football and the England results are on the page. MotorSportMCMXC (talk) 08:27, 21 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Diary of the season[edit]

At least one user has expressed concern that my "diary of the season" for this season (and indeed the 30 or so other seasons preceeding it) does not fit in with Wikipedia guidelines. I feel that such a section is appropriate, as I have included high profile events such as managerial changes and "big" transfers the top clubs ie those in the Premier League and Football League Championship, as well as the results of major games such as internationals and cup finals, and the deaths of notable individudals. I understand that some users may not feel that this section is appropriate, which is why I have been specific about the events I include; for instance, I have not chosen to include events such as "Rochdale player given a free transfer after half a dozen League Two games", "Accrington Stanley buy 'player x' from Lincoln City for £10,000 to give backup for the squad" or "x who played a few Fourth Division games in the 1960s has died". Sir Stanley, 19:29, 3 January 2009

Personally I don't give two hoots whether the section stays or goes, but can you please cite your sources? (Oh and delink all those dates). Nanonic (talk) 20:42, 3 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
This relates to my comment on Sir Stanley's talk page, which was as follows:
"Regarding your edit to 2007–08 in English football, the "Diary of the Season"/"Timeline of Events" approach is exactly what we should try to avoid and not really what Wikipedia is about. Articles should be prose-based where possible, supported by lists/tables (either within the article or as a separate page) where such information is better presented or summarised in that form. I've made quite a few edits to the article (albeit a while ago) to start moving it towards a narrative rather than a "1 January - X happened, 2 January - Y happened" approach, but you seem to be moving it back the other way. With your permission, I'd like to integrate all of the listed events into the prose, where relevant." --Jameboy (talk) 14:16, 4 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Planning permission[edit]

I removed the bits about planning permission being granted on Oldham and Brighton's new stadiums. I believe that new stadia are notable in the season that they start being used, not the season in which planning permission is granted. --Jameboy (talk) 22:05, 25 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
