Albums

Planning on listing every album that may or may not be released in 2003? No other year has album listings in it. --Zoe

The year pages are only meant to be summaries. For a list of everything, use "what links here". We could feasinly list Sgt Pepper in the relevant year page. In general, it takes several decades for the full cultural impact of something like that to be understood. -- Tarquin

Predictions

Would it be worth it to create an entry for "predictions for 2003?" Future predictions by so-called "psychics" are very popular, though I personally follow the skeptics' crowd that thinks they're so much hot air. One way to prove that "psychic" predictions are bunk would be to record them here in Wikipedia, then compare them at the end of the year and see if any of those predictions came true. -- Modemac

Eclipse

Shouldn't that be annual rather than annular for the eclipse? annular meaning ring shaped. I don't know much about space - so there may be a ring shaped eclipse, which is why I haven't changed it. LordRich

Where is the total eclipse? There's no such thing as a total eclipse which occurs all over the world. -- Zoe

I believe an "annular eclipse is one in which the apparent size of the moon is smaller than the sun, so there's a ring of the sun all the way round the dark shape of the moon. & zoe is right, we need to know where -- Tarquin 10:51 Feb 6, 2003 (UTC)

Pages not updated since 2003 began

I was checking the Old pages section of Wikipedia and found that there are no fewer than 27,445 pages that haven't been updated since 2003 began. Why does this page say, Over 30 nations held elections in 2004. — shouldn't that be 2003? But I don't know how many elections took place in each year, so ... someone please fix this. — Timwi 15:11, 20 May 2004 (UTC)

Deaths

Which ones specifically, I doubt you think all the removals are notable people (eg obscure political activitsts, Catholic bishops etc). Justify what? Most of the people you removed are notable. If there's a dispute, let's mention them one-by-one. You know which ones I reverted... For example, why did you delete Madame Chiang Kai-shek, perhaps one of the most notable people on the list, while leaving someone with less global impact and fame such as Lady Valerie Goulding who doesn't even meet the 1000 person test? Just about every American knows who Mister Rogers is and grew up watching his show--under your criteria that name would surely be kept on the list. --Jia ng 22:42, 12 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Temperature

Can I just make it clear that official met office, UK government statistics and the BBC on the UK's highest ever recorded temperature are more authoritative than someone's home webpage? I'm getting rather bored of being reverted by someone using out of date information. Average Earthman 10:38, 19 December 2005 (UTC)

With regards to the temperature which had been edited to 38.1C and currently stands at 38.5C, the homepage used for the 38.1C figure is a summary of UK weather history. There has been some debate for a while on whether Faversham's 38.5C, or Gravesend and Kew's 38.1C should count as the national record. I am not trying to force this on to anybody, but the ste site at Faversham is known to have been over sheltered by trees, which may give a false reading. The Gravesend reading may also be suspect due to sandy soils. As I previously said, I am not trying to force this information on to anybody, but the information is there if you wish to read it. Again, that is information on someone's personal webpage. Given that the Met Office are professionals, and generally pretty highly regarded in their field, one would expect them to have some idea of the placement of their weather stations. Sports events

We have a page for sports events in 2003, so we don't need to go filling this up with them - particularly as there are plenty of people who will be convinced that their sports events are notable. So I'd suggest events need to be high profile, international (preferably intercontinental) and preferably non-annual. Normal, annual events (FA Cup, Super Bowl, tennis Grand Slams, Indy500, AFL Grand Final, etc. etc. etc.) should go in year in sports unless this particular year was clearly exceptional in some way (e.g. end of the Curse of the Bambino). Paris heatwave

I don't think the heat wave in Paris killed more than 3000 people. Deliberate vandalism or a careless mistake? Either way, I've removed it. Thomasiscool 23:30, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

The heatwave certainly contributed to thousands of deaths, with all-time high temperatures recorded in many places. It is difficult to put an exact figure on it, as the vast majority of those whose deaths were heat-influenced were already dying / seriously ill. Qzm (talk) 18:49, 12 September 2009 (UTC)
