"the three candidates held a debate to debate the format of presidential debates"?[edit]

According to this Washington Post column:

In 2000, the behind-the-scenes negotiations about the presidential debate, its format and details reached a stalemate. So, the three candidates held a debate to debate the format of presidential debates. After some back and forth, actual policy debates did happen.

I have no recollection about this, and don't have the book referenced here. It's not in the article. Anyone have info and want to update the article? TJRC (talk) 18:44, 6 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Scratch that. The WaPo writer is confused. The book it cites makes clear that this is the 2000 campaign for President of Mexico, not of the United States:
"In Mexico's 2000 election, plans for a debate among the three leading presidential candidates broke down temporarily when behind-the-scenes negotiations failed. In an effort to save the debates, the three candidates organized (what else?) a televised debate to discuss the format and timing of any subsequent debates." Minow,, Newton N.; LaMay, Craig L. (2008). Inside the Presidential Debates: Their Improbable Past and Promising Future. University of Chicago Press. p. 86. ISBN 9780226530390. Retrieved August 6, 2015.{{cite book}}: CS1 maint: extra punctuation (link)
So this is just the Washington Post author misreading her source; nothing over which to update this article. TJRC (talk) 19:04, 6 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
And the WaPo article has now been corrected (with no indication of the correction, though) to "In 2000, the behind-the-scenes negotiations about the Mexican presidential debate..." TJRC (talk) 20:13, 6 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
