Roof Cameras[edit]

I remember hearing Mike Joy say during the 1998 Daytona 500 that the roofcams had been banned in 1997 before being brought back with approval for 1998. What prompted the ban? Was there an accident that broke a camera off a car and sent it into the grandstands? Maybe some concern from the teams about too much drag? I know they used to be quite noticeable in size before they figured out how to reduce them to the size of a Tic-Tac. 184.100.22.102 (talk) 07:25, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This was due to aerodynamics, and NASCAR wanting them all to be equal. Eventually they ran with the roof camera pods on all the cars, whether they were carrying a camera or not. --Bluorangefyre (talk) 08:30, 12 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
