Dalglish makes comeback to deliver promised land to Blackburn[edit]

14 July 1991 - Liverpool break the domestic transfer record by paying Derby County £2.9million for Welsh striker Dean Saunders.

21 July 1991 - Aston Villa sell midfielder David Platt to Bari for £5.5million, making him the most expensive British-born footballer.

4 August 1991 - Manchester United pay Queen's Park Rangers £1.75million for defender Paul Parker.

7 August 1991 - Manchester City break their own transfer record as well as the national record for a defender when they pay Wimbledon £2.5million for centre-back Keith Curle.

18 September 1991 - The first European Cup game involving an English club since the fateful 1985 final (where the Heysel disaster resulted in a ban on English clubs in European competitions) sees Arsenal beat Austria Vienna 6-1 and striker Alan Smith score a hat-trick.

19 October 1991 - Plans are unveiled for landlords Crystal Palace and newly-housed tenants Wimbledon to leave Selhurst Park and relocate to a new all-seater stadium in South London.

4 November 1991 - Bryan Robson, 34, announces his retirement from international football.

14 January 1992 - Chelsea defender Frank Sinclair is fined £600 and banned for nine matches for clashing heads with a referee while on loan at West Bromwich Albion.

15 January 1992 - Oldham Athletic are knocked out of the FA Cup in a shock 4-2 defeat at Third Division Leyton Orient.

22 February 1992 - Manchester United are reported to be planning to leave Old Trafford to relocate to a new 60,000-seat stadium that is the centerpiece of the bid to host the 2000 Olympic Games in Manchester.

29 March 1992 - Ryan Giggs is voted PFA Young Player of the Year and his team mate Gary Pallister is voted PFA Player of the Year.

23 April 1992 - Gary Lineker is voted FWA Player of the Year in his final season at Tottenham before his forthcoming move to Japan.
