Flag variations[edit]

Remember that some nations, like Germany and Italy, have had different flags during the last century. So Josef Fischer of Germany should be shown like this: Josef Fischer (GER), while Luigi Ganna of Italy should be shown like this: Luigi Ganna (ITA). lil2mas (talk) 15:26, 21 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The most correct way to do it is to search through the flag of Germany or flag of Italy articles. But you could look at the corresponding Olympic articles, to get a hunch of what it was around that year (ie. 1896 Summer Olympics#Participating nations). To look at all the available flags, and what "label" to use, look at: Template:Country data Italy#Flag variants and Template:Country data Germany#Flag variants.
