1542 Papal Bull of Convocation for Council of Trent[edit]

I'm no expert, but looking through the Council of Trent and Pope Paul III articles, I had trouble getting the dates in those articles to jibe with the 22 May reference on this article's list of events. Add to that the closing lines of this translation of Pope Paul III's Papal Bull of Convocation for the Council of Trent, which states 22 May 1542. Not sure which is correct. Any thoughts? -- Bgpaulus (talk) 16:59, 30 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

@Bgpaulus: you are right. Paul III first convoked a council on 22 May 1542 not 1540. The first session of the first convocation started in December 1542 in Trent. It was suspended by some of the Italian War of 1542–46, until the 1544 Treaty of Crépy was signed the Holy Roman Empire and Kingdom of France. Then, Paul III again convoked the council on 30 November 1544 in Laetare Jerusalem [de]. The first session of the second convocation started on 13 December 1545 in Trent.
