Some domains are free, like .edu.to, but only to real Tongan schools, courtesy tonic. [1]

Does anyone know what those last two words are doing there? They make no sense to me.

It's probably supposed to be "courtesy of Tonic" (the registrar). I took it out, since it seemed redundant. 24.91.139.74 23:34, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

.to has a whois server now. It's pathetic (check out the following for an example of output), but it's there. :)

The article states:

Recently, the TLD itself has started to host a website, the to. URL shortening service.

It refers to http://to./ but there's also http://www.to./ (and http://www.to/ which is the same as the version with the trailing dot).

I guess the trailing dot after "to" is just required to ensure browsers do not add some top level domain themselves. And I guess the "to" and "www.to" are totally unrelated (different results and different IP addresses for one thing), but maybe someone who understands might write something about it (here, or in the article if applicable). See also a discussion How the heck is http://to./ a valid domain name? at Server Fault. --Avbentem (talk) 09:35, 10 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like the to URL shortening might have broken. I'm not finding info about it in the provided URLs, nor the .to registrar's web site. Someone registered http://www.to/ so that doesn't go to the shortening home page either. -- SEWilco (talk) 21:22, 6 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Actually looks like the site and all shortened links are down. TLD must've shut down the service for any number of reasons. 173.19.224.120 (talk) 03:22, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Torrent[edit]

Frankly this should be obvious, but the .to TLD is used for several bittorrent aggregators, most notably isohunt.to. That domain may exceed the traffic of all other .to domains put together. It should be mentioned here.

My understanding is that this domain is similar to .tv in that the coincidence of the letters used to designate the country and the letters in specific words results in a value significant in comparison to the entire GDP of the assigned country, and therefore of indisputable relevance in articles like this. A bit late in seeing this. I agree. I've added torrent aggregator to the article. OhanaUnitedTalk page 02:00, 3 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
