Shallabugh(شالہ بُگ) is a tourist village located in Sherpathri block of Tullamulla tehsil of Central Kashmir's Ganderbal district in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, India.[1]

Location[edit]

Shallabugh village is considered Sherpathri's largest village, spanning two rivers in Kashmir. The total area of Shallabugh is 2243.6 hectares. [2] The main village, Shallabugh-A, [3] rests along the Sind River and includes Addah Mohalla, Mokdam Mohalla, Astan Mohalla, Umar Colony, Shah-e-Hamdan Colony, Sama Mohalla, Khanday Mohallah, Laway Mohalla, Tul Mohalla, Pethkundal, and Paribal. Shallabugh-B, [4] locally known as Taken Wari Pora or Pati-Shallabugh, is situated along the Jehlum River and comprises Dar Mohalla, Khan Mohalla, Gori Mohalla, Gund-Roshan, and Gaasi Mohalla.

  • Shallabugh Wetland

Nestled within the village, the Ramsar-declared Shallabugh Wetland serves as a global habitat for migratory birds. This wetland serves as a habitat to thousands species of Flora and Fauna including birds and fish. It is the famous tourist attraction located within the Ganderbal district and Srinagar district.[5]

  • Shallabugh Playground

Located on the Sindh riverbank, Shallabugh Playground hosts renowned cricket tournaments, attracting sports enthusiasts. It's a prominent recreational spot within the village. The youth from across the valley especially from Ganderbal district and Srinagar district, come here to play the sports like football and cricket.[6]

  • Paribal Playground

Situated on the Sindh riverbank, Paribal Playground is famous for hosting football tournaments, contributing to the village's sports culture. It's a popular destination for football enthusiasts.[7]

  • Sindh Forest Division

Covering vast stretches of land from Harran village to Shadipora town, the Sindh Forest Division is a significant natural asset of the village. It's integral to the region's ecosystem and biodiversity.[8]

  • Wicker Worker Artists

Renowned for their craftsmanship, the village's wicker worker artists enrich the region's cultural heritage. They continue to contribute to the local arts scene, by crafting different items including baskets, flower vases, chairs, kitchen wares and sofas etc from locally grown willow reeds.[9]
