Psalm 45:9

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Psalm 45:9 is the ninth verse of the Psalm 45 in the Old Testament.

Text[edit]

See Psalm 45#Text (where this verse is numbered as 10) for the original Hebrew text.

In the Greek of the Septuagint this verse is:

θυγατέρας βασιλέων ἐν τῇ τιμῇ σου· παρέστη ἡ βασίλισσα ἐκ δεξιῶν σου ἐν ἱματισμῷ διαχρύσῳ περιβεβλημένη, πεποικιλμένη.

In the King James Version of the Bible the text reads:

Kings' daughters were among thy honourable women: upon thy right hand did stand the queen in gold of Ophir.

The New International Version translates the passage as:

Daughters of kings are among your honored women; at your right hand is the royal bride in gold of Ophir.

Analysis[edit]

There have been a number of suggestions as to the location of Ophir. One such is the west coast of Hispaniola found by Christopher Columbus, "from whence at this time is brought most fine gold".[1]

Gold of Ophir: This was very rare gold of the highest purity.[2][citation needed]

Some have pointed out that the queen mentioned in this verse is the Virgin Mary.[3]
