Mizanur Rahman Shameem (Bengali: মিজানুর রহমান শামীম) is a Lieutenant General in the Bangladesh Army who is currently principal staff officer of the Prime Minister's Office, Armed Forces Division. Before that he served as General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 9th Infantry Division and Area Commander of Savar Area. Prior to join the current appointment, he served as GOC of the 24th Infantry Division and Area Commander, Chattagram Area. He also served as Director General of Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party. He also served as the GOC of the 19th Infantry Division and Area Commander, Ghatail Area. He served as the Director of National Security Intelligence (NSI) and commanded one Infantry Brigades in Bogura. He won a gallantry award (Bir Protik) for conduct of an operation in Chittagong Hill tracts.

Career[edit]

Shamim was the GOC of the 19th Infantry Division in 2019.[1] He was the Ghatail Area Commander of Bangladesh Army.[2] He oversaw a joint Bangladeshi-Indian army exercise.[3]

Shamim was appointed the Director General of Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defense Party on 29 July 2020. He replaced Major General Kazi Sharif Kaikobad.[4] On 19 July 2022, he was posted to 24 Infantry Division as GOC and Area Commander Chattogram Area.

Personal life[edit]

General Shameem is married to Rehana Parveen Mukti. He is a father of a daughter and a son.
