The Milwaukee Skywalk is a 1.75 mi (2.82 km) skyway which connects buildings in downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Background[edit]

The skywalk system is 1.75 mi (2.82 km) of walkways connecting eight blocks of buildings in downtown Milwaukee. The connected buildings include the Fiserv Forum, The Avenue, The Hyatt Regency, the Federal Building, Baird Center and it also crosses the Milwaukee River. Many of the skywalks in Milwaukee were constructed in the 1980s. Some people thought that skywalks obstructed street-level views. In 1988 Milwaukee Mayor John Norquist did not like the skywalks, because it took people off of the street which was not good for retail businesses.[1]

History[edit]

In 2023 a 110 ft (34 m) section of skywalk was added between the Hyatt Regency and the Baird Center. The section weighed 110,000 lb (50,000 kg).[2] The Milwaukee Riverwalk is a continuous pedestrian walkway along the Milwaukee River and the skywalk is part of the river walk.[3] Historic Milwaukee offers tours of the skywalk system which they refer to as a " Skywaukee tour".[1]
