Lieutenant general Manjinder Singh AVSM,YSM, VSM is a serving general officer of the Indian Army. He currently serves as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Army Training Command (ARTRAC) Shimla. He previously served as the Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (Perspective Planning & Financial Development) at HQ IDS.
He is the present Colonel of the Madras Regiment.

Early life and education[edit]

Lt. General Manjinder Singh is an alumnus of Sainik School, Kapurthala; National Defence Academy and the Indian Military Academy.

Military career[edit]

General Singh was commissioned into 19th Battalion of the Madras Regiment on 20 December 1986.
He commanded his battalion in an intense counter-insurgency environment in Jammu and Kashmir, and tenanted varied staff appointments in Corps and Commands along the Western Front.[2] He was also appointed as a commanding officer for Insurgency in Jammu and Kashmir, infantry brigade at the Line of Control (LOC) and an Infantry Division as part of Strike Corps.[3] and a Corps deployed along Line of Control in Counter Insurgency Operations in J&K. The General Officer has tenanted varied staff appointments in Corps and Commands along the Western Front and in the Counter Insurgency Operations environment.
The General Officer has also been as an instructor at the Indian Military Academy and Commandant Indian Military Training Team Bhutan.[4] He has also served as the MGGS (Ops) at Headquarters of the Western Command[5]

He obtained other military courses from various institutions such as Defence Services Staff College, Higher Command Course and National Defence College of Thailand.[3]

After promoted to the rank of Lt. General he appointed as the Chief of Staff of the Western Command.[6][1] In October 2021 he appointed as the General Officer Commanding of XVI Corps where he served till December 2022. [7] The General officer has assumed the appointment of GOC-in-C Training Command on 01 December 2023.[8]

Awards and decorations[edit]

On Republic Day 2024 the General officer was awarded Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, in2015 he was awarded Yudh Seva Medal and the Vishisht Seva Medal in 2019.[9]
