Etymology[edit]

Long ages ago in a small barrio, there was a couple with a lovely daughter who described as a "beautiful lady blessed with stunning eyes that tend to gaze and wander, scanning the scenic views around her." Because of that, she was named Lingap.

One day, Spaniards arrived to conquer the little barrio. The residents there were terrified that they evacuated immediately. During the onslaught, Lingap's father told her to take a pillow with her which contains jewelry. Her father called out, "Lingap, ang unan!"

A Spaniard overheard them saying the phrase. Wondering what might that word meant, he called Lingap's family. The Spaniard shouted them, "Alto! Alto! Espera un momento!" which translated as "Stop! Stop! Wait a minute!"

Lingap's family didn't understand the language and perceived the Spaniard's message as a threat towards them. The Spaniards misheard his remark and thus called their newly conquered area as "Lingunan."[4]

History[edit]

During the Spanish and American occupation, the place was a thriving agricultural area.[4]
