Hoa Xuan Nguyen,[2] known professionally as Hoa Xuande (/ˈhwɑː ʃɔːnˈdeɪ/[3]), is an Australian actor of Vietnamese descent. He is best known for his role as Lin in the 2021 live action remake of Cowboy Bebop. He was also in the SBS series Hungry Ghosts and the ABC comedy series Ronny Chieng: International Student. In 2022, Xuande was announced as the lead in the 2024 HBO/A24 television series The Sympathizer.
Early life and education[edit]
Xuande is of Vietnamese descent.[4] He studied acting at Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts.[5] Xuande attended school at Trinity Grammar in Melbourne.[6]
Career[edit]
From 2016 to 2017, Xuande portrayed Elvin in the ABC comedy series Ronny Chieng: International Student,[7] alongside Ronny Chieng, Molly Daniels, Shuang Hu, Patch May and Anthony Morgan.
In 2020 he portrayed Khoa in the SBS series Hungry Ghosts.[8] He then portrayed Lin in the 2021 live action remake of Cowboy Bebop.[9][10]
In 2022, Xuande was announced as the lead in the 2024 HBO/A24 historical black comedy drama television series The Sympathizer.[11] The miniseries is an adaptation of the 2015 novel of the same name written by Viet Thanh Nguyen.
