Greg Ketterman, who designed the Hobie and its Mirage drive, has done a remarkable job of overcoming the various problems of control, folding amas, a retracting rudder, full-battened (but mast-furling) sail, and many other important details. The Hobie makes the larger tris seem like conspicuous consumption: it has all one needs and in a very small package.
