French ship Hermione

Twelve ships of the French Navy have borne the name Hermione, in honour of Hermione, daughter of King Menelaus of Sparta and his wife, Helen of Troy.

  1. ^ Roche (vol.1, p.241) mentions HMS Hermione of 1782 as having been surrendered by her mutinied crew and perhaps incorporated in the French Navy; it appears, however, that she was with the Spanish Navy the entire time until her recapture by the Royal Navy.
