Summary

Description
English: Visit of the Royal Commission for the narrow gauge railway extension. Premier Butler and some other identities are identified, in the same photo in possession of the Mallala Museum. The museum also holds a picture of a similar gathering with many of the same identities, at Parham. A group of formally dressed men and three women outside a house described by Searcy as 'Buckfastleigh', belonging to Mr. Tom Irish, Mallala. One man, possibly a journalist, holds a notice with The Herald' displayed. According to a newspaper article this photograph was probably taken on Friday 22 October 1909, when the Parliamentary Party dined at the homestead of Mr. T. Irish. The legislators were inspecting the Mallala country affected by the proposed narrow gauged railway extension. It was not until 1913 before any legislation was in place to commence the extension.
