Description
English: Postcard streetscape looking south along Dubuque Street from the Iowa Avenue intersection in Iowa City Iowa, representative of an era. The east (left) face at about the center of the image includes a brownish-colored storefront at 24-26 South Dubuque Street that housed the Bon Ton Cafe of Etta & Will Englert, who lived upstairs.

Original publication: Postcard

Immediate source: A printed postcard postmarked at Iowa City, Iowa, April 28, 1909, contained in the postcard collection in the private Hibbs Research Library of Iowa City History. There is no copyright data showing on the card, although a printed statement reads: "Made in Germany. Published for C.L. Wieneke, Iowa City, Iowa. 1238"
Author Caroline "Carrie" L. Wieneke who operated a gift and stationery shop initially with her father in the St. James Hotel building at Clinton Street and Iowa Avenue in downtown Iowa City, which was razed by fire in 1916. She subsequently operated her own store as Arcade Books at 114 Washington Street.
