From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Peter Szolovits is a computer science professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Career[edit]

He is a full professor in the MIT Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department (MIT EECS) and a principal investigator at the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) who conducts research using methods of artificial intelligence (AI) for problems related to medical decision-making, including using natural language processing to extract data from clinical narratives and design information systems for healthcare institutions and patients.[citation needed]

His work has included developing ML models that can search EHRs for clinically relevant information and generate novel questions for doctors to ask patients.[1] His group has also worked on algorithms that can predict intensive-care-unit stay-times across different electronic health record (EHR) platforms.[2]

Szolovits was elected a Fellow of the American Association for Artificial Intelligence,[3] the American College of Medical Informatics,[4] and the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering.[5]

He has served as a member of the National Research Council's Computer Science and Telecommunications Board[6] and is the 2013 recipient of the Morris F. Collen Award of Excellence from the American College of Medical Informatics.[7]
