Peter J. Wacks (born 1976</ref>[1]) is an American author,[2][3] actor[4] and game developer.[5]
Some of his works include the game Cyberpunk 2020 CCG,[6] the co-autorsip of the Bram Stoker Award finalist graphic novel Behind These Eyes, and the co-autorsip of the alternate fantasy history Caller of Lightning.[7][8]
Career[edit]
In 2003, Wacks acquired a game spin-off license from R. Talsorian Games for the Cyberpunk 2020 role-playing game, and created Cyberpunk: The Collectible Card Game.[9] Wacks is the president of Social Games which published the Cyberpunk CCG.[10]
Wacks then turned his hand to TV, film and franchise writing, working first on Alias, and also doing some work for Veronica Mars, G.I. Joe, Heroes,[11][12][13][14] and the Predator franchise.[15] Wacks took part in the initial launch of the Kindle Worlds platform.[14]
Wacks also founded FairyPunk Studios, a creative cooperative that aimed to create fairytales set in the steampunk genre.[16]
His first work of fiction was "Cat's Paw" in the 2011 anthology Of Fur and Fire: Tales of Cats & Dragons.[1] In 2012, Wacks co-authored the graphic novel Behind These Eyes with Guy Anthony De Marco. In 2014, he wrote his first novel, Second Paradigm, a science fiction time travel story. In an interview, he called this the one of which he is the most proud.[17]
He also co-wrote a cyberpunk novel based on the Interface Zero 2.0 game world with Guy Anthony De Marco and Josh Vogt called Solar Singularity, which was selected as a finalist for the juried International Association of Media Tie-in Writers annual Scribe award for 2018.[18][1]
Wacks and De Marco had also previously worked as writers on the core rule book for Interface Zero 2.0: Full Metal Cyberpunk[19] an RPG game which was itself a finalist for the 2015 ENnie Award in the original interior art category.[20]
He followed this several others, including with Bloodletting, co-authored with Mark Ryan; The Dandy Boys Mysteries, a steampunk adventure; and Caller of Lightning, an alternate fantasy history novel co-authored with Eytan Kollin.[21]
Reception[edit]
At the 2013 Bram Stoker Awards, Behind These Eyes was a finalist in the category Best Graphic Novel of 2012.[22]
Catherine Russell, writing for Functional Nerds, was not impressed by Wacks' short story "Space Opera", which appeared in the science fiction anthology Raygun Chronicles – Space Opera for a New Age. Russell wrote, "Peter J. Wacks' Space Opera managed to both confuse and bore me throughout the entire tale. As a literal take on the term, the descriptions were well done but otherwise did not hold my interest."[23]
