Memo Nexhip Bejko (1 April 1929 - 2 August 1949), was an Albanian partisan and later commander of the Albanian People's Army, who fell during the Battle of Vidohova in 1949 against the Greek forces during the Albanian-Greek border conflict.

Early life[edit]

Memo Nexhipi was born in Dukaj, a village in the Tepelenë district, into a family with strong patriotic traditions. His commitment to Albania's independence was awakened early, and he joined the ranks of the partisans during the National Liberation Anti-Fascist Struggle.

During LANÇ, Memo played a crucial role in the liberation of Tepelenë in 1943, showcasing courage and organizational skills. After the end of World War II, he continued his dedication as a commander in the Albanian People's Army.

Memo Nexhipi's tragic end occurred during the Battle of Vidohova in 1949. As a commander of the Albanian forces, he heroically fought against Greek monarchists and fascists attempting to invade Albanian territory.

In this pivotal battle, Memo sacrificed his life to defend the borders of Albania. His courageous efforts contributed to halting the enemy's advance and preserving the independence of the country.

Awards[edit]

Posthumously, Memo Nexhipi was honored with the title "Hero of the People" for his outstanding contributions during the National Liberation Anti-Fascist Struggle.
