The Leks Schools League, an initiative introduced by Leks Sports NG, aims to establish a cohesive platform for secondary school students across various states, enabling their participation in football competitions. Implemented on a statewide basis, the league divides each state into distinct conferences, facilitating the engagement of exceptional athletes in playoffs held at the conclusion of each season. Operating in harmony with the academic calendar of schools, the league emphasizes the significance of maintaining a balance between sporting endeavors and educational pursuits for its participants.[1]
2021/2022 Season[edit]
The 2021/2022 season witnessed the organization of two primary conferences: the Lagos Mainland Conference and the Ibadan Conference.
Lagos Mainland Conference[edit]
In the Lagos Mainland Conference, a total of six distinguished institutions participated in the competition. Notable contenders included Government College, Eko Boys High School, Birch Freeman High School, Eric Moore High School, Igbobi College, and International School Lagos. After a series of closely contested matches spanning 14 rounds, Government College Lagos emerged triumphant, securing the championship title with an impressive record of 13 victories out of 14 league games played. The conference showcased the talents of 200 secondary school players, who collectively participated in 56 matches, resulting in the scoring of 140 goals by 35 different scorers. Additionally, the competition witnessed the achievement of 40 clean sheets, underscoring the defensive prowess exhibited throughout the tournament.
Ibadan Conference[edit]
Meanwhile, the Ibadan Conference featured a competitive lineup of schools, including Brightville College, Command Day Secondary School, Ibadan Grammar School, Adem Secondary School, Government College Ibadan, Abadina College, Kings Int’l, and Gofamint High School. Brightville College emerged victorious in this closely contested conference, clinching the championship title by securing victory in 16 out of their 21 matches. The Ibadan Conference showcased the talents of 220 secondary school players, who collectively engaged in 84 matches, resulting in the scoring of 193 goals by 57 different scorers. Moreover, the conference witnessed the achievement of 74 clean sheets, reflecting the defensive resilience demonstrated by the participating teams.
2022/2023 Season[edit]
The subsequent season of the Leks Schools League witnessed the continuation of the competitive fervor, with Government College Lagos defending their title in the Lagos Mainland Conference, Brightville College retaining their championship status in the Ibadan Conference, and Nigerian Navy Secondary School claiming victory in the Abeokuta Conference.
Six schools were slated to participate in each of the three conferences for the ongoing season. In the Lagos Conference, Government College Lagos prepared to defend their title against Birch Freeman High School, Eko Boys High School, Eric Moore Senior Boys School, Anwar Islam Model College, and Ilupeju Secondary School. The Ibadan Conference defending champions, Brightville College, geared up to defend their title against Command Day Secondary School, Government College Ibadan, Abadina College, Command Secondary School Mokola, and Ibadan Boys High School. In the Abeokuta Conference, Nigerian Navy Secondary School was set to defend their title against Sacred Heart Catholic College, Taidob College, Victorroti Secondary School, Folarin Dally School, and Apostolic Faith Secondary School.
The Lagos Mainland Conference commenced its kickoff for the 2022/23 season, with Eko Boys High School hosting all participating teams on Friday. The league schedule incorporated a break in December to accommodate GCE and school exams, resuming in the second week of January 2023.
