Dr Junaid Jahangir is an Assistant Professor of Economics at MacEwan University in Canada.[1]
A British writer on LGBT people in Islam,[2][3][4][5] Jahangir is a prominent gay Muslim and lay theologian,[6] and critic of Salafist, traditionalist, Quranist and rationalist interpretations of the Quran, viewing them as part of the "hydra of Muslim homophobia".[7]
He co-wrote Islamic Law and Muslim Same-Sex Unions, in which he focuses on the story of Lot (Lut) in Islam, arguing against traditional anti-gay interpretations of the story,[8][4] which has led to backlash from extremist groups.[6]
