Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is an organization that develops a standard for organic textiles and administers a third-party certification program to certify products complying with the standard[1].
There are two levels of certification: (1) Products that use at least 70% organic fibres can seek certification to be labeled as "made with (x%) organic materials."
(2) Products that use at least 95% organic fibres can seek certification to be labeled as "organic."[2][3]
History[edit]
GOTS was co-founded by four organizations: International Association Natural Textile Industry (IVN); Japan Organic Cotton Association (JOCA); Organic Trade Association (OTA); and Soil Association (SA). In 2006, GOTS published the first version of its standard and launched a third-party certification system. Since then, GOTS has periodically revised and updated the standard. As of February 2022, more than 12,000 facilities had been certified under the GOTS standard.[4]
