The Ferris Wheel of Budapest is Hungary's tallest mobile Ferris wheel, 65 meters high, which has been in place on Erzsébet Square in Budapest since the summer of 2013, and was also in operation for a short period at the Sziget Festival.

Setting up[edit]

The office that also organizes the Sziget Festival, the Sziget Cultural Management Office Ltd. set up the 65-metre Ferris wheel on Erzsébet Square. The Ferris wheel will be in operation from 8 June to 22 July 2013 near Deák Ferenc Square, and then at the Sziget Festival in August. The idea was not easy to implement because the Ministry of Finance saw it as a problem on two levels. On the one hand, for environmental reasons, and on the other hand, they feared that the balance between the area's entertainment and recreational functions would be upset. On 7 May, the capital's Public Land Use Committee finally voted in favour of the permit.

The downtown attraction is expected to increase the tourist attractiveness of the city centre. The wheel was launched on 2 June, but the official launch took place on 7 June.

In addition to the wheel, a four-day brandy festival was organised by the Aquarium Club (formerly the Pit).

Construction[edit]

The electromagnetically driven wheel is noise-free. The 65-metre structure can accommodate 168 people. It has 42 enclosed cabins for four people.
