Citizen Odin[edit]

Citizen Odin is a Danish indie rock band fronted by singer and composer John Odin. The music has rock as its starting point, but often goes in many directions[1]. The American music blog American Pancake describes the style as a collision between Black Francis (of the Pixies) and Leonard Cohen, Citizen Odin is a studio band only, as John Odin has spoken openly about his hearing impairment, which prevents the band from performing live.[2][3]

Coward 19[edit]

The band debuted with the album Coward 19 released on November 17, 2020. A Bedroom project, which the band in interviews has described as weak both in terms of content and production[4]. However, the title track led to contact with the record label Lazarus Music Group, who offered to produce a studio album with the band.[3] Coward 19's lyrics revolve around a number of aspects of the great covid 19 shutdown.[5]

OK Boomer![edit]

Okay Boomer! was released on March 25, 2022. The album is a concept album and the lyrics revolve around a sugar dating relationship between a middle-aged and independent man and a young influencer girl.[6] The album's lyrics deal with topics such as #MeToo, cancel culture and digital bullying.

The album consists of 12 actual tracks as well as intro, outro and three so-called interludes.[7] Okay Boomer! is produced by Lasse Boye and recorded in Rapzonen.dk's studios.

The single Rainbow Attention was written by John Odin, produced by Lasse Boye and mastered at Abbey Road Studios by Christian Wright. The number has been in rotation on German LGBT+ radio stations for over 2 years.[8]

The single OK Boomer (Radio Edit) was the band's breakthrough with a number of chart positions. The single reached the top spot on US Bandwagon Network Radio's chart for the first time on July 15, 2023. It spent several weeks at number one. The follow-up, Remember Ginny spent a single week at number one on January 27, 2024.

Bang-Bang![edit]

Bang Bang! (Radio Edit) was released on February 29, 2024. The single was written and released in collaboration with Ghanaian rapper AJ Nelson. Bang Bang is about a school shooting, and about the arms industry's influence on legislation. Bang Bang! is to date Citizen Odin's biggest success measured by radio play [10], and although it caused quite a stir in the US,[11][12][13][14] it was successful outside the US. Bang Bang secured Citizen Odin their first English chart 1st place.
