Draft:Camp Reue

Alex Bennett

Alex Jay Bennett is a 13 year old boy with brown hair and hazel eyes who lives on the border of a forest in Creede Colorado with his mom. He is 4"11. His parents are divorced and his dad currently lives in San Diego California. He has a passion for playing video games and math.

Megan Boie

Megan Etta Boie is a 17 year old girl with blond hair tied up in a ponytail and green eyes. She is 5"4. She does not know her mom and her dad is the camp counselor. She grew up in the camp. She has a passion for plants and foraging.

Story

After getting in a fight in school with three of his peers in a grade above him after class, Alex's mom, Virginia takes him out of school due to fear and begins to home school him. One day during lunch, Alex wanders off into the forest surrounding his house and discovers a summer camp called Camp Reue. Convinced by the camp counselor, Alex joins the camp and soon meets a 17 year old girl named Megan.

Camp Reue

Camp Reue is a cult disguised as a summer camp. It is located in a forest in Creede Colorado. The policy is that once you join, you get to design your own mask and you are required to wear it at all times except for during eating times or sleeping. They sleep in cabins to push the camp aesthetic.

Story (cont.)

After Megan and Alex meet, Megan tells Alex the truth about Camp Reue. They quickly devise a plan to escape. They decide that they will try to be seen without their masks to be sent to The Hole, which is a small, jail cell-like cage with no floor. When they are in the hole they will cover themselves in dirt to disuse themselves and dig a hole under the wall. Avoiding the nightwatchman, they will go to the lake by the camp and swim to the town. There, they will find Alex's house and Megan, at this point 18, will go off and try to get an education and live her own life.

Executing the plan

When the two decide the day has come, they wake up and restate the plan. When they go out to eat breakfast, they pretend to have forgotten their masks in their cabin, when in reality they destroyed them and burned them in the fireplace. When a cabin search is finished they find nothing and send Alex and Megan to The Hole, just as they had planned. They wait out the night and when the time comes, they cover themselves in dirt and even some leaves and sticks they had found on the ground the previous day. Alex takes out the small toy shovel he had found in the lost and found and Megan takes some of the water The Hole provides to soften the dirt. When they have a hole in about a foot deep, they notice the sun rising and Megan says that they'll come to check on the two but the bright side is that they will bring more water for them and breakfast. Alex decides to sit on top of the hole to hide it. Thankfully they don't notice. Alex and Megan eat breakfast and begin to dig the hole again. By nightfall, Alex can fit through the hole. By around midnight they can both fit.

After the plan succeeds

When they squeeze through the hole, they quickly run behind a tree and plan to swim to an island located in the middle of the lake. They decide to sleep for a few hours. When they hear the morning bell they start swimming. They make it to the island around midday. Megan finds some berries and she deems them edible. They survive off of those for a few hours and when it starts to get dark, they decide to sleep. When morning comes they locate a dock in the town and decide to swim there. After swimming for an hour a boat approaches them with an old man, around 60, who was out on a fishing trip. He offers them a ride and he gives them some food and water from his cooler. Megan tells them the whole story and the man tells his. They ride to the dock, thank the old man and continue on their way.

In town

When they reach the town they start to walk around to find somewhere to stay the night as night was approaching. Walking around, they find missing person posters posted all around town for Alex. They eventually find someone who would let them stay after telling them that Alex was the young boy who was missing for 3 months. They stay at the nice clean house of a 38 year old woman who agrees to fix them dinner and let them stay in the basement. She goes and grabs sleeping bags and sets them up in the basement. She calls the police while the two eat spaghetti with the ladies 2 kids, 7 and 10.

The end

When they wake up the next morning, the lady makes them all breakfast of eggs and sausages. She tells the two that the police said they contacted Alex's mom and she was coming to pick him up today. The lady offers for them to take a shower before they leave but they polity decline. After they help the lady and her kids with some chores she gets a knock at the door. When she opens it, its Alex's mom and she runs in. The two share a long hug and in tears, his mom says that she missed him so bad and that she was so scared. Alex apologized and is scolded jokingly. Alex stands up and goes to say goodbye to Megan. Megan introduces herself to Alex's mom and tells her and the lady the whole story over a cup of coffee, Alex drinks hot chocolate. The lady offers to house Megan until she finds a place to stay. Megan takes the offer and the two share a final goodbye.
