There was a period (since GTA III) when every well-known sandbox game was also an open-world game, so that some people thought that these terms are synonyms. However, before GTAIII there were great games (such The Sims, SimCity) well known as sandbox games, which were not open-world. Today some sandbox games are not open world, and vice versa.
Therefore I propose to abolish the redirect from Category:Sandbox games to Category:Open-world video games. Ufim (talk) 12:17, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
