Contested deletion[edit]

This category should not be speedy deleted as being unpopulated, because... Mokshas speak one of Mordvinic_languages which according to most scholars are now included into Finnic languages since 2010s. (It means no more scholarly works will be accepted if they are based on old categories). Since Mokshas as ethnic group did not have a category I included them to Baltic Finnic category they belong too since 2016 (stipulated in Mordvinic languages). Since the same time Mordvinic languages are also dated term and scholars include Moksha, Saami and Finnish into separate category I put template merge to Finnic languages. I planned to request a bot to use the new category Moksha people to move there all articles related. In Soviet time Mokshas were included into Mordvins but it is proved for the last decades it is not an ethnic group and have no common language (Mordvin) and common ancestry even genetecally. All evidence and scholarly works provided in the previous version of the Mordvins rolled back by an unregisterd vandal. Thanks.----Numulunj pilgae (talk) 05:07, 20 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Numulunj pilgae,
Unless they fall into a limited group of exceptions (which are all listed on the CSD tag), empty categories are deleted on Wikipedia if they are still empty 7 days after being tagged. Should they be needed in the future, they can easily be recreated. That's Wikipedia policy. We can't have thousands of empty categories existing just because they might be used at some point in the future. Again, should articles get recategorized according to your argument stated above, if this category has already been deleted, you can get it quickly restored either by going to WP:REFUND or contacting the administrator who deleted it.
