Many articles in this categories need sortkeys added so they will alphabetize by topic, and not all end up under "L". -- Beland 04:09, 7 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Have cleaned it up now. -- Sunny256| 10:27, 12 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

This category is completely unwieldy, and includes numerous redundancies, in part I imagine because it is so unwieldy. For instance a lot of lists of particular types of scientists are listed in "lists of people by occupation" and not "lists of scientists". Probably because the category is so big that scientists falls on the second page! I've begun consolidating & eliminating some of the general categories. I haven't found any discussion anywhere else about this; but if it's a problem, let me know. --LQ 13:11, 1 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Update: I've cleaned it up such that everything falls on the same page, but there are still lots of "lists of [professions]" that need to be subcategorized correctly. --LQ 13:46, 1 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Do we need these lists?[edit]

For many of these lists, there are corresponding categories. (Example: List of lexicographers, Category:Lexicographers). This duplicates the effort and create incompleteness. I think we should delete these lists and stick with the categories. Is anybody watching this page? Any ideas? -- þħɥʂıɕıʄʈʝɘɖı 22:16, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • I'm watching this page! One reason these lists are helpful is that they can include notable people who don't yet have articles, and so wouldn't be in the category. The redlink helps show that an article is needed. ... Also, there are lists, like the lists of the members of the NAS, that ought to be sorted into this category (whether they are or not), that need to exist, because we don't categorize by membership within organization (for the most part). ... These reasons may not override other considerations, of course, but here they are. --Lquilter 00:02, 1 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Prisoners?[edit]

I had no idea being a prisoner was an occupation. 98.196.78.26 (talk) 04:42, 12 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
