Do we need a common category to hold this and Category:Native American culture? Or infact are they two differnt things at all? Maybe they should just be merged with only things specific to one country singled out and seperated? Kevlar67 04:52, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Then Category:Native American culture would need a new name, as it's "unacceptable" to use on this side of the border; and there are different hierarchies above and below them because of hte different history/culture as affected by the respective impacts of the dominant nation-states; it would be nice if there was a solution that but as Native American name controversy and its talkpage serve to remind, it's nowhere near solved yet despite the claims made on Native American, which give the US meaning mostly, or mostly from that context anyway. Category:Indigenous culture has "culture" in a different meaning, or I'd suggest it as a "host/parent" category for both; if it exists that is.Skookum1 (talk) 22:17, 26 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Suggest Category:Indigenous cultures in North America, or the singular Category:Indigenous culture in North America but plural seems more apt.Skookum1 (talk) 03:39, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I thought of this while looking in this category to see what would apply to Skaay, a 19th Century Haida poet/storyteller whose surviving works are some of the only remnants of classical Haida oral literature; but there's obviously also less traditional sources who are writers of aboriginal origin, no? From Tomson Highway to Pauline Johnson to Dee Brown, there seems to be a major need for this cat. Or am I simply not looking in the right place?Skookum1 (talk) 22:17, 26 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK so I'm blind; still curious about the parallel Native American cat; maybe it's titled differently. Category:Aboriginal literature in North America strikes me as a good idea for a parent; Category:Aboriginal literature might be "in Australia", we'll see if that links.Skookum1 (talk) 22:19, 26 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
