Here should be defined, what is a "city". This category contains articles about big cities like Riga and small towns like Ainaži. If towns like former are defined as cities, then Category:Towns and villages in Latvia is redundant and coult be exterminated. -Yyy 06:43, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No, cities of Latvia are established by goverment, other setlements that haven't got city rights like Kolka may vary in size, thus bouth categories are needed - one for cities recognised by goverment and one for other setlements in Latvia -- Xil/talk 23:15, 14 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Category towns and villages in Latvia, contains a lot of government recognized cities (or towns), this category contains many of settlements, which does not have city rights. I suggest to move articles about smaller settlements to Category:Towns and villages in Latvia, but this would leave this category rather small (there are under 10 large cities in Latvia). -Yyy 08:09, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
How about having two new categories: "Towns and cities in Latvia" and "Villages in Latvia". What to put in each would be obvious and unambiguous. Artpol 12:30, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
There are two types of cities in Latvia recognised by law - 1.cities of republic and 2.cities, we could make one category called cities and include cities of republic there, another called towns and place all other cities there and third one called villages for other settlements. On other hand I spoke whith Yyy [1] and we agreed to put all cities recognised by law in category "cities", for now I'm going to do that -- Xil/talk 10:43, 26 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
