The Stansfeld or Stansfield family of Stansfield, Todmorden, West Yorkshire, are an English gentry family.

The family is believed to have been founded by the Norman landowner Wyons Maryons who was awarded lands after the Norman Conquest. His son, Jordan, became “Lord of Stansfield” (in the manor of Wakefield, Yorkshire) in the 1100s and is reputed to have been the first to assume the surname from the placename, the township of Stansfield in the parish of Halifax.

Various Stansfeld and Stansfield families in the neighbouring parishes of Todmorden, Heptonstall, Halifax, and Rochdale, Lancashire are descended from this family. One branch of this family later adopted the distinctive spelling of Stansfeld and resided at Sowerby, Yorkshire.
