The 19th Summer Deaflympics opened in Rome, Italy, on July 22nd, 2001, and closed August 1st, 2001. It included some 2376 athletes from 70 different nations competing in 15 different spots. Matt Hamill, current Ultimate Fighting Championship fighter participated in the 2001 Deaflympics[1] and won a silver medal in Greco-Roman wrestling and a gold in freestyle wrestling[2].
