CFDlister bug[edit]

Hi Qwerfjkl! Since ~yesterday, there has been a bug with CFDlist when listing discussions without using one-click closes. If you go to e.g. Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2024 April 24#Category:Arab-Jewish diaspora and click "list discussion", instead of prefilling with

* Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2024 April 24#Category:Arab-Jewish diaspora
Result: rename
<syntaxhighlight lang="wikitext">
; Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2024 April 24
* :Category:Arab-Jewish diaspora
* :Category:Arab-Jewish diaspora in France‎
* :Category:Arab-Jewish diaspora in the United States‎
</syntaxhighlight>

It prefills with

* Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2024 April 24#Category:Arab-Jewish diaspora
Result: RESULT
<syntaxhighlight lang="wikitext">
; Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2024 April 24
* <div class="boilerplate cfd vfd xfd-closed mw-archivedtalk" style="background-color:#bff9fc; margin:0 auto; padding:0 10px 0 10px; border:1px solid #AAAAAA;">
* The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. <span style="color:red">Please do not modify it.</span> Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
* The result of the discussion was: <!-- Template:Cfd top --> <small>(non-admin closure)</small> <b>House<span style="color:#7D066B;">Blaster</span></b> (talk · he/him) 02:37, 2 May 2024 (UTC)
* :Category:Arab-Jewish diaspora
* :Category:Arab-Jewish diaspora in France‎
* :Category:Arab-Jewish diaspora in the United States‎
</syntaxhighlight>

It is not super hard to fix manually on each listing, but I would appreciate a bug fix :) Best, HouseBlaster (talk · he/him) 20:02, 2 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

MassRFD[edit]

Hi. Is there an RfD equivalent of MassCfD? --MikutoH talk! 22:58, 2 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

MikutoH, no, but I could write a modified version of MassCFD for RfD if that would be helpful. — Qwerfjkltalk 13:59, 3 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That would be helpful. Though I think most of y'all use XFDcloser or something, I guess it requires so user groups/status. --MikutoH talk! 03:28, 8 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
MikutoH, XFDcloser is for closing discussions, not starting them. — Qwerfjkltalk 16:54, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
For what it's worth, myself and at least a few others at NPP would love this type of feature. Hey man im josh (talk) 15:21, 10 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hey man im josh, I'm working on this in tandem with the below. — Qwerfjkltalk 18:11, 10 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

MassCFD feature requests[edit]

Hi Qwerfjkl! I've got two requests for MassCFD, one smaller than the other.

The (easier? It sounds easier...) one the script should warn people when closing the tab with entered information (on Chrome, it has a popup which says "Leave site? Changes you made may not be saved.").

The second (probably a bit more complex?) request is some way to do a mass WP:CFDS nomination. Whichever way is easiest to implement; maybe adding to the menu of dropdown options?

Anyways, thank you for all you do category wise (and for Wikipedia in general!). No pressure, no deadlines.

Best, HouseBlaster (talk · he/him) 02:04, 6 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

HouseBlaster, I've implemented the first one, it was pretty easy. The second request will take me a bit longer to implement. I'm also in the process of moving house right now, so it might take me a few days (or longer). — Qwerfjkltalk 17:27, 6 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Take all the time you need, and thank you so much!! :) HouseBlaster (talk · he/him) 19:23, 6 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
HouseBlaster, tagging the categories for Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2024 May 7#IIHF Ice Hockey Women's World Championships reminded me, I'll also add pasting support (which is already in CfD lister), meaning you can copy the text straight from the nomination section and just paste it in. — Qwerfjkltalk 17:33, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Awesome. Again, thank you so much!! HouseBlaster (talk · he/him) 17:40, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
HouseBlaster, okay, after a few days without internet I've gotten round to this. I have a couple of questions on the implementation:
 1. What template should I place on user talk pages (if any)?
 2. What format should I add the mass nomination in? It would seem redundant to add the rationale after each category if it's the same.
— Qwerfjkltalk 19:28, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
In order:
 1. I don't normally place a template on UTPs; I don't think one exists(?). I would say don't leave a template.
 2. I think in the same way you enter a MassCFD rationale: there is a big box which lets you enter a rationale, which is mapped to each category. If you need to nominate a bunch of categories for different reasons, that is what Twinkle is for. If you need to some categories for one reason and other categories for a different reason, you can run simply the script twice.
Again, thank you for taking this one on! HouseBlaster (talk · he/him) 19:41, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
HouseBlaster, on 2 , that's not what I mean.
The format for a single CFDS nomination is:
* :Category:Foo to :Category:Bar – C2X: rationale ~~~~.

For a mass nomination I could simply duplicate that for each category, or I could do something like
C2X: rationale ~~ ~~.
:* :Category:Foo1 to :Category:Bar1
:* :Category:Foo2 to :Category:Bar2
— Qwerfjkltalk 20:40, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ah. I would lean towards duplicating the rationale (if you need to write a paragraph at CFDS, that is a sign you should probably be at CFD). However, others might feel differently. Would you have any objections to pinging some CfD regulars to see what they think? HouseBlaster (talk · he/him) 22:19, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
HouseBlaster, no objections. — Qwerfjkltalk 14:37, 10 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Fayenatic london, Hey man im josh, Marcocapelle, Nederlandse Leeuw, Pppery, Smasongarrison, and Ymblanter: thoughts on whether MassCFD at WP:CFDS should list nominations like Option A or Option B?

Option A
* :Category:Foo1 to :Category:Bar1 – C2X: identical rationale. ~~~~
* :Category:Foo2 to :Category:Bar2 – C2X: identical rationale. ~~~~
* :Category:Foo3 to :Category:Bar3 – C2X: identical rationale. ~~~~
Option B
C2X: identical rationale. ~~~~
* :Category:Foo1 to :Category:Bar1
* :Category:Foo2 to :Category:Bar2
* :Category:Foo3 to :Category:Bar3

Best, HouseBlaster (talk · he/him) 15:16, 10 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Holy hell I love the idea of having a tool for mass nominations, it can be suuuuch a paaaain. I too am leaning towards duplicating the rationale (option A). Hey man im josh (talk) 15:20, 10 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hey man im josh, duplicating the rationale is option A. — Qwerfjkltalk 15:43, 10 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Fixed, thanks. For what it's worth though, I'm more than happy to refer to Ymblanter for their preference, since they do so much of the processing. Hey man im josh (talk) 15:45, 10 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Option B of course, it saves us a lot of time when we transfer the nominations for processing. (Also applies to manual nominations). Thanks a lot for working on it. Ymblanter (talk) 15:28, 10 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I also lean towards Option B. I often see fellow editors use it at CFDS, and recently I did it myself (for the first time?). The main reason for doing it that way is that it WP:CENTRALises discussion around the identical rationale of all nominees. I've had it happen several times that when I speedied like 10 cats from the same tree with the same rationale, one editor responded to every single one of them with Oppose and an identical reason for opposing each one of them. That is duplicating a whole lot of discussions that can easily be centralised using Option B. NLeeuw (talk) 15:30, 10 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
 • Option B per Ymblanter. It should be manageable for the nominator as well as for the processor. Marcocapelle (talk) 15:58, 10 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
 • Option B of those two, definitely. But if it's not too much harder, could we have the following, which is what experienced editors have historically built manually?
Option C
* :Category:Foo1 to :Category:Bar1 – C2X: rationale. ~~~~
** :Category:Foo2 to :Category:Bar2
** :Category:Foo3 to :Category:Bar3
— Preceding unsigned comment added by Fayenatic london (talkcontribs) 16:54, 10 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Even better. Ymblanter (talk) 20:31, 10 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Indeeed. Preferring Option C now. NLeeuw (talk) 21:21, 10 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Works for me. Really whatever is easiest for admins and Qwerfjkl to implement. HouseBlaster (talk · he/him) 21:33, 10 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I echo HouseBlaster, whichever is easiest to implement is my choice! Thanks all! Mason (talk) 22:34, 10 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Wikidata weekly summary #626[edit]

Here's your quick overview of what has been happening around Wikidata over the last week.
This is the Wikidata summary of the week before 2024-05-06.
Translations are available.

Tool of the week

 • Wikidata periodic table - Tool by User:Ricordisamoa, to browse all chemical elements available on Wikidata, with atomic number, chemical symbol, and localized label. It also includes two charts of the nuclides, with links to every isotope in Wikidata, colored by half-life or decay mode.

Other Noteworthy Stuff

 • A new UI mode is available for the online validator for EntitySchemas. It represents validation reports as a table rather than a very long string, and replaces most links with hyperlinks with some of the text behind them; making them easier to read. Currently being tested at https://shex-validator.toolforge.org/packages/shex-webapp/doc/shex-simple-improved.html, we are looking for participants to evaluate this tool. Some experience with editing Wikidata is appreciated, but no experience working with Schemas is required. If you are interested, you can sign up here. We hope to begin interviews around May 13. Question from Semantic AI (23:50, 9 May 2024)[edit]

How do I upload a new company logo? We rebranded a few years ago from Semantic Research to Semantic AI. --Semantic AI (talk) 23:50, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semantic AI, I suspect it would be Wikipedia:Fair use so would need to be uploaded locally on the English Wikipedia at an acceptably low resolution; I would suggest you enquire at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content for a more knowledgeable opinion.
You seem to be representing your company; please note that per WP:CORPNAME this username is not allowed. I would suggest you create a new account with an appropriate username, and abandon this account. — Qwerfjkltalk 15:54, 10 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

watchlistemail... bug?[edit]

Thanks (again) for the watchlist tool. I'm curious, though; I've noticed a few times now that WP:BN doesn't trigger a notification when Lowercase sigmabot III archives a thread, but I get notifications for just about every other talk page that gets archived. Any idea what could be causing this? Primefac (talk) 15:18, 10 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Primefac, nothing that I can see (though unrelatedly while looking at the logs I noticed BottleOfChocolateMilk got flagged as a bot). — Qwerfjkltalk 15:48, 10 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hah! Yeah, I did notice that, wasn't hitting my watchlist often enough to mention anything. Primefac (talk) 15:51, 10 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
