The data from sources can be updated regularly, either for everything, or just changed entries (if the source has a "recent changes" equivalent).

Wikimedia Ukraine, in cooperation with the MFA of Ukraine and Ukrainian Institute, has launched the forth edition of writing challenge "Ukraine's Cultural Diplomacy Month", which lasts from 1st until 31st March 2024. The campaign is dedicated to famous Ukrainian artists of cinema, music, literature, architecture, design and cultural phenomena of Ukraine that are now part of world heritage. We accept contribution in every language! The most active contesters will receive prizes.

• Phase I of the 2024 requests for adminship review has concluded. Several proposals have passed outright and will proceed to implementation, including creating a discussion-only period (3b) and administrator elections (13) on a trial basis. Other successful proposals, such as creating a reminder of civility norms (2), will undergo further refinement in Phase II. MassCFD feature requests

Hi Qwerfjkl! I've got two requests for MassCFD, one smaller than the other.

The (easier? It sounds easier...) one the script should warn people when closing the tab with entered information (on Chrome, it has a popup which says "Leave site? Changes you made may not be saved.").

The second (probably a bit more complex?) request is some way to do a mass WP:CFDS nomination. Whichever way is easiest to implement; maybe adding to the menu of dropdown options?

Anyways, thank you for all you do category wise (and for Wikipedia in general!). No pressure, no deadlines.

HouseBlaster, okay, after a few days without internet I've gotten round to this. I have a couple of questions on the implementation:

1. What template should I place on user talk pages (if any)?
2. What format should I add the mass nomination in? It would seem redundant to add the rationale after each category if it's the same.

In order:

1. I don't normally place a template on UTPs; I don't think one exists(?). I would say don't leave a template.
2. I think in the same way you enter a MassCFD rationale: there is a big box which lets you enter a rationale, which is mapped to each category. If you need to nominate a bunch of categories for different reasons, that is what Twinkle is for. If you need to some categories for one reason and other categories for a different reason, you can run simply the script twice.

The format for a single CFDS nomination is:

I also lean towards Option B. I often see fellow editors use it at CFDS, and recently I did it myself (for the first time?). The main reason for doing it that way is that it WP:CENTRALises discussion around the identical rationale of all nominees. I've had it happen several times that when I speedied like 10 cats from the same tree with the same rationale, one editor responded to every single one of them with Oppose and an identical reason for opposing each one of them. That is duplicating a whole lot of discussions that can easily be centralised using Option B. NLeeuw (talk) 15:30, 10 May 2024 (UTC)

Recent changes

• The appearance of talk pages changed for all wikis, except for Commons, Wikidata and most Wikipedias (a few have already received this design change). You can read the detail of the changes on Diff. It is possible to opt-out these changes in user preferences ("Show discussion activity"). The deployment will happen at remaining wikis in the coming weeks. [1][2]
• Interface admins now have greater control over the styling of article components on mobile with the introduction of the SiteAdminHelper. More information on how styles can be disabled can be found at the extension's page. [3]
• Wikimedia Enterprise has added article body sections in JSON format and a curated short description field to the existing parsed Infobox. This expansion to the API is also available via Wikimedia Cloud Services. [4]

Changes later this week

• The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 7 May. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 8 May. It will be on all wikis from 9 May (calendar). [5][6]
• When you look at the Special:Log page, the first view is labelled "All public logs", but it only shows some logs. This label will now say "Main public logs". [7]

Future changes

• A new service will be built to replace Extension:Graph. Details can be found in the latest update regarding this extension.
• Starting May 21, English Wikipedia and German Wikipedia will get the possibility to activate "Add a link". This is part of the progressive deployment of this tool to all Wikipedias. These communities can activate and configure the feature locally. [8]

Tool of the week

• Wikidata periodic table - Tool by User:Ricordisamoa, to browse all chemical elements available on Wikidata, with atomic number, chemical symbol, and localized label. It also includes two charts of the nuclides, with links to every isotope in Wikidata, colored by half-life or decay mode.

Other Noteworthy Stuff

• A new UI mode is available for the online validator for EntitySchemas. It represents validation reports as a table rather than a very long string, and replaces most links with hyperlinks with some of the text behind them; making them easier to read. Currently being tested at https://shex-validator.toolforge.org/packages/shex-webapp/doc/shex-simple-improved.html, we are looking for participants to evaluate this tool. Semantic AI, I suspect it would be Wikipedia:Fair use so would need to be uploaded locally on the English Wikipedia at an acceptably low resolution; I would suggest you enquire at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content for a more knowledgeable opinion.

watchlistemail... bug?

Thanks (again) for the watchlist tool. I'm curious, though; I've noticed a few times now that WP:BN doesn't trigger a notification when Lowercase sigmabot III archives a thread, but I get notifications for just about every other talk page that gets archived.
