That Button Phobia AfD

Generally, I do the relisting for DRVs that I close. In this case, my nomination is much more extensive in background information than yours, so I replaced yours (we had written it at the same time, and you beat me by one minute and an edit conflict. Well, okay. I think it rather odd of you to insist on this, and a tad petty, but I'm not about to get involved in the lamest edit war ever over it. Be advised, however, that by precedent the DRV closer does write the nomination. Now that you know this, don't intercede; or, if you do so, please write an informative nomination that helps explain to commenters the nature of the case. Can any of the 1000 thousand administrators in the Wikipedia enforce an ArbCom decision? A user isn't respecting a block blatantly

SqueakBox was blocked in August 22 until September 28, 2006. It can be found in his block log. As can be seen here, SqueakBox is accessing the Wikipedia after his ban from the address 63.245.13.229, that he claimed to be his real IP address before being blocked (here The 'SB' there means SqueakBox as it's easy to see). Kannapolis, David Ragan [citation needed]

"erm no" is the edit summary you left after removing the [citation needed] beside the name David Ragan.

Can you clarify your summary?

The paragraph in question stated "Kannapolis is the birthplace of... David Ragan [citation needed]".

In trying to check that fact, all signs pointed to David Ragan's birthplace as Unadilla, GA.

David's current hometown may be Kannapolis, NC, but again, the paragraph in question is the birthplace, thus [citation needed].

University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee athletics

When referring to the athletic teams at UWM, "Wisconsin-Milwaukee", and any variation there of, is indeed improper. I've added a cite stating this (the conference's official media guide), and corrected the article. I am very familiar with this situation, having worked with the school's SID regarding this issue in recent years. I realize it may seem like a strange idea, but just think about what the University of Wisconsin-Madison calls their athletics teams... the "Wisconsin" Badgers. They use only a part of their schools name, the part they believe best identifies the school for athletics. UWM simply does the same thing now. This is also not uncommon in recent years with other large state universities that compete in the NCAA's D-I, such as UNC-Charlotte and UT-Chattanooga that have done the same. Let me know if you need any other sort of official confirmation from the school, and I should be able to get it for you. Thanks! - CollegeSportsGuy 04:44, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

To reply to your protection 'summary': "no", and "it's not the first time they've appeared on a Main Paged article; in fact it's probably not even the 1000th, literally". I do however, speak out about protection of the very first article people try to edit! Have you never (I guess not so many people have) been enthusing to a friend about how Wikipedia is, in fact, quite good, and yes, you really can (no yes, you really can, yes, seriously) edit it on a whim, and hey let's try it right now. Oh. Bugger. Well, no you can't edit that. Oh, nor that. Whereas vandals try to go too far, we shouldn't go too far in return else all that happens is they got the better of us. Denver 2008 - the latest

Hey, 1ne. I'm dropping by the talk pages of Wikipedians for Denver 2008 today with an update on the bidding process and where Denver's bid is currently at.

First off, Denver has a new, unofficial bid homepage up today: http://www.denverdnc2008.com/ , which you may want to check out for more info on the bid to bring the DNC to the Mile High City in '08.

Second, today the site-selection committee is expected to announce the final two cities in the bid for 2008. It's expected by most pundits and bloggers that Denver and St. Paul will likely be the two finalists, but many think that dark horse New York may edge out a seat in the final days of the bidding process.

Third, we're expecting an official site for Denver's bid to emerge within days from the mind of Colorado Democratic Party V.C. Dan Slater (founder and operator of the popular Colorado blog Demonotes).

Hi 1ne, the five days was the expiry of the AfD. University of Wisconsin

Hi there, UW-Madision is the first campus of University of Wisconsin. In the past decades, the University of Wisconsin has expanded to 13 universities. It is more appropriate to direct University of Wisconsin to University of Wisconsin System. I also find that's how University of California and University of Illinois are presented in Wiki. They don't just go directly to the first campus. By the way, I see a lot of editors suggested to direct University of Wisconsin to University of Wisconsin System. Actually, as Tony was the subject of that RFC, it was technically improper for him to delete it. On the other hand, it was created by a sockpuppet of a blocked user, a user that Tony blocked himself, so I think it still should have been deleted anyway from the start. Program Feature: Admin Coaching (needs coaches!) Admin Coaching needs coaches!!! If you are an administrator, or even a generally experienced user, do consider signing up to be a coach. Admin Coaching, now being coordinated by HighwayCello, is a program for people who want help learning some of the more subtle aspects of Wikipedia policy and culture. People are matched with experienced users who are willing to offer coaching. The program is designed for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins. What's New? The Tutorial Drive is a new Esperanza program! In an effort to make complicated processes on Wikipedia easier for everyone, Esperanza working to create and compile a list of tutorials about processes here on Wikipedia. Consider writing one! One-minute vandalism recovery seems like an extreme standard to maintain consistently. But if you look through the recent history, you'll see that we've been keeping up with it pretty well. Joe Lieberman

1ne, I am not sure I understand the rationale for the block on Lieberman. There was one user repeatedly adding the "anti-Palestinian" sentence to the lead. Admin JoshuaZ has since intervened (WP:BLP). There is also ongoing discussion of whether Lieberman is a Democrat or an Independent, but that does not seem to have reached the point of being an edit war.

Can we look forward to a contribution on the talk page, explaining the block and directing us to discuss to resolve whatever caused it?

And are we sure that semi-protection wouldn't make more sense, if we really need protection at all? Jd2718 05:03, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanksgiving page directories added

I see you protected the Thanksgiving page, so you are either an administrator, or interested in the page, or were bored to pieces one day, but probably are more experienced at Wikipedia policies than I am. Can you tell me whether these "Directory" additions[2] have any merit? Are they legit? Should they be allowed to stand? I loathe spam, and I don't understand quite if this is merely a clever way of adding spam. I suspect my learning curve at Wikipedia is rather steep, but swear I'll catch on one day. Hi. I was working on a page titled, 'critical care nursing' and the deletion log showed that you deleted it. May I ask why? I put the tag on the top asking for more time and put in the talk page that it is a work in progress. It is not yet a complete page. Any input you have on this deletion would be appricated.
