USification[edit]

This article is completely biased towards an American point of view. Tax-free shopping occurs other places in the world as well. --abach 04:21, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

To meet both points of view, I globalized the first sentence, then put the rest of the article under the heading "Tax-free shopping in the United States". Anyone who wants to add information on tax-free shopping in other countries can add a new section. "Tax-free shopping" vs. "tax holiday"[edit]

I'm not sure which article should survive (so I'm not tagging them), but I believe this article and Tax holiday should be merged. For the most part, they cover the same type of event; though there are a few exceptions like New Hampshire (which doesn't have a sales tax at all), in most states "tax-free shopping" occurs only during tax holidays. --RBBrittain 18:45, 4 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In addition, the lengthy content in this article on penalties for failing to pay use tax to your home state (largely based on Massachusetts residents buying in New Hampshire) really belongs in the Use tax article; much of that article is also based on Massachusetts experience. If tax-holiday is a special case of tax-free shopping, then it could be a subtopic in this article. It would make little sense to do it the other way around, as tax-holiday occurs rarely, and tax-free shopping is 24/7 in New Hampshire. Lupinelawyer 20:15, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tax-free shopping in the United States - Whole section is for US residents only[edit]

The section should be divided into two subsections for US residents and foreigner that visit the USA for holiday vacation from outside the USA. The sections gives no information and no help for the latter one, because everything in this section counts only for US residents and are focused on issues between federal states. The section gives no Information for residents from other nations, that visit the USA. The article needs definitely a reworking. --91.89.138.41 (talk) 23:56, 29 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
