Rodd&Gunn brand name was established in 1946. The clothing brand as it is known today was established by Jock Schoeller and Gary Gwynn in 1989 and was created out of Action Downunder . The first store was in Christchurch opened at the end of 1987. Action Downunder opened the first themed clothing stores in New Zealand. The first themes were outdoors and yachting. Rodd&Gunn was created out of the outdoor themed environment.The use of the dog was also used for the first time at this time.
