Move Proposal[edit]

I propose that this article be moved to the less ambiguous title of Pent-roof combustion chamber.

While "Penta engine" got 6.78 million hits on Google, the only site on the first page that did not refer to the Volvo Penta line of engines was the article being discussed.

"Penta head" got 5.4 million hits, but none of the sites on the first page refer to the valve/cylinder head arrangement that is the subject of this article. They referred either to penta-head bolts, Peavey Penta amplifier heads, microscopes with five eyepieces, or a video demonstration of a head for a machine tool.

"Pentroof", which is what I know the system as, only got 276 thousand hits, and only one of the sites on the first page refers to the valve/cylinder head arrangement that is the subject of this article.

When I tried "Pent-roof" instead, Google suggested "pent-roof combustion chamber". Accepting the suggestion gave a paltry 35.5 thousand hits, but all the sites on the first page refer to the valve/cylinder head arrangement that is the subject of this article.

I therefore argue that, while "Pent-roof combustion chamber" does not get nearly as many hits as "Penta engine", it is a much less ambiguous title than "Penta engine", "Penta head", or "Pentroof", and should be the title of this article.

Penta as in 'Penta Head' means Five as noted above. While Pent as in 'Pent Roof' means Single sided Wedge shape as in a Window Awning. Pent as in 'Pent Roof (Pentroof) engine' is a type of combustion chamber, while Pentaroof is not used the same way. A Pent Roof combustion chamber has no similarity to Five-ness or a single faced wedge. 'Pentastar' is Dodge's trademark for their Pentroof Head engine. Therefore I submit that in this article Penta Roof is a spelling error.

Architectural term[edit]

I was looking for the architectural term pent roof, which seems to be the English term for German Pultdach. Now this redirects to the Pent-roof combustion chamber which may or may not be derivative of the architectural term.--78.53.79.4 (talk) 12:15, 3 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

2-valve pent-roof chambers[edit]

I'm pretty sure that they made 2-valve pent-roof heads for certain American V8's back in the 1950's. Chrysler maybe? This seems to suggest that all pent-roof chambers are multi-valve. Less importantly, a hemi-head requires more complex valve gear whether it is two valve or 4, at least in OHV and SOHC configurations, due to the widely spread valve angles. Using 4 valves just magnifies this problem, due to being spread in two different directions..45Colt 19:54, 23 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
