Why "Y"?[edit]

Why do the postnominal letters associated with the Order of Isabella the Catholic use "YC" when Isabella is spelled with an "I" in both English and Spanish? For example, former President Ernesto Zedillo of Mexico uses "CYC" for Knight of the Collar of the Order of Isabella the Catholic. The first "C" stands for "Collar," the second "C" stands for "Catholic" or "Católica," but what does the "Y" stand for? There is no "Y" in "Isabella" or "Isabel" or even in "Elizabeth." It would only make sense to me if "Isabel" or "Isabella" were spelled "Ysabel" or "Ysabella." 66.91.36.8 (talk) 04:04, 25 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
