Requested move 13 January 2021[edit]

Moved as proposed as to items #1 and #2; no consensus to move as to #3. After much-extended time for discussion, there is consensus for the absence of a primary topic for the formally spelled out name. BD2412 T 19:45, 11 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

– Per stats, the activist of the same name is most viewed. However, the car racing driver is also viewed as much as the activist, but the driver uses "Mike" instead. I'm unconvinced that "Michael" and "Mike" are distinctive enough as the names are interchangeable. Parenthetical disambiguation should make the titles clearer. Furthermore, neither the activist nor the car racer is historically significant any more than the other. Car racer won several races, while the activist wrote books and won just one award from a newspaper as of date and no elections. In the meantime, "Mike McLaughlin" must redirect to the dabpage.   • Oppose. It is standard practice for names that are spellled - and sometimes only merely capitalized - differently to have an outlier (like Mike) at the "main" title with a hatnote pointing to "Michael" dabpage. This is, in fact, literally what hatnotes are for. (Also we don't use "car racer" as a disambiguation term. You want "auto racerracing driver") If somebody wants to find the activist Michael McLaughlin, they'll look for Michael McLaughlin, not Mike McLaughlin. - The Bushranger One ping only 23:40, 13 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

      • How natural the names are is subjective at best. Honestly, I wouldn't cite the policy without explaining further how natural disambiguation is best suitable for both persons. IMO, "parethetical disambiguation" would be my best suggestion when none of the other solutions lead to an optimal article title."
