Publications a bit much[edit]

@LeadSongDog: I notice you added these PubMed publications to balance out the PR firm's selection of the guy's publications, but I think it's having the negative effect of turning this into a resume for the guy. I'm guessing those are from some PubMed search or curated page, in which case I think an external link to the PubMed page would serve better in this case. I think "Selected publications" are fairly common, with the understanding that the curation was done by consensus of the editors of the page. I think the goal is to usually find some representative (e.g. most popular) publications in the area's of the subject's expertise, and if they've written books a full bibliography is not uncommon. 0x0077BE ^{(talk · contrib)} 21:28, 30 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

In a sense it was a response to the implicit wp:OR of the "selected" publications list. Who makes the selection? We need independent authorities to do that, as the bare minimum secondary source. LeadSongDog come howl! 16:10, 3 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@LeadSongDog: That is not the standard that almost any biography article is held to, and adding randomly selected PubMed publications is not the solution to it, not to mention it's unnecessary, since we can just link to the Pubmed listing. See Richard_Feynman#Bibliography, Elinor_Ostrom#Selected_publications, Norman_Borlaug#Books_and_lectures, Max_Planck#Publications, none of which has a single secondary source referenced for their selected bibliographies. These are randomly selected examples. The "who" that selects them is the editors of this encyclopedia. Consider that we don't include every single fact about a person or every single reference to every single fact, either. The pubmed list wasn't random, it was complete. Perhaps that leads to excessive length, but it avoids injecting editor's POV. The "selected" lists without explicit criteria are the problem.
