Origin of the name[edit]

But why lemon? Martinevans123 (talk) 21:32, 10 January 2011 (UTC) The correct name is "Leman" sole not "Lemon" Sole. It is named for a region of the North Sea called "Leman Banks" where the fishe could be caught — Preceding unsigned comment added by 888BW (talkcontribs) 16:36, 28 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Lemon sole is a misnomer since it's neither a real sole, nor does it have the taste of lemon. It certaintly came from the french name : "limande" or "sole limande". The french term "limande" may come from "lime". It means "file" (tool use to smooth metal, wood, etc.). Maybe because the texture of the fish's skin. Some other authors suggest that "limande" may also come from "limon" (which means "silt"). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.215.189.118 (talk) 12:13, 30 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
