2009 Specifications[edit]

2007 model?[edit]

There are some incongruency's between my brand new 2007 model's owners manual and the article. I'm not really skilled enough to update the articles tables, can someone else help with this? I found a copy of the specifications here: [23] Firegryphon (talk) 04:19, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

dry vs. wet weight[edit]

Something that's been bothering me about motorcycle specs ...

For 2006 the article specifies dry weight of 362 lbs, Sport Rider magazine measures wet weight of 431 lbs. The difference is 69 lbs.

By definition, wet weight should be equal to dry weight + full tank of gas + all other consumables ( engine oil, coolant ). Full tank of gas on a ZX-6R is 28 lbs. A little under one gallon of motor oil - 7 lbs. Coolant - can't find any hard data for ZX-6R, but similar bikes have around one gallon - 8 lbs. Maybe 2 lbs of fork oil. Total of 45 lbs.

Where does the rest come from? We're more than 20 lbs short. Unless I missed something big, Kawasaki must be "cheating" in their definition of dry weight. And its not just Kawasaki - many sport bikes have 60-70 lbs differences between claimed dry weights and actual wet weights. --Itinerant1 00:08, 27 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If the only measurements we can find are manufacturer claimed figures, I would suggest we use them with the disclaimer of "manufacturer claimed". As soon as a secondary source is available, though, they should be replaced with those numbers and a cited source. Dry and wet weights should be called out as well and I don't see a problem with listing both. All of this goes for power figures as well.
