There was one cite for the entire article, and that was a dead link. I replaced it with the NY Times obit. More references should be supplied, if available 184.0.16.200 (talk) 02:09, 9 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A Remembrance[edit]

Jim Jensen was the lead anchor for CBS news for much of the 1970s and 80s, covering both the 6:00 pm news and the 11:00 news. He was always rather intense and serious, but also intelligent... and it is surely possible he rubbed some co-anchors the wrong way. He could embarrass them if their reporting or reasoning was off. In particular, I remember an exchange he had once with Warner Wolf, lead sports anchor, about an issue concerning team play and protest. I thought Jensen's reasoning was better, though he somewhat abruptly cut Mr. Wolf off and sent the news to another co-anchor. However, the broadcast did have to move forward.

Concerning his 'fall' at CBS, I recollect that it was his alcohol and drug use that was the principle issue, and thought this occurred circa mid-1980s. In any event, he was forced to take a few weeks off... and when he came back, he never quite re-assumed lead anchor responsibilities, that is to say, the same position as when he left, but was more of a special reporter. Additionally, and around this time, in a remarkable piece of self-reporting, Mr. Jensen revealed part of his life on alcohol and drugs and the difficulties he went through. Nonetheless, I remember him for being a decent, fair news reporter known for his serious demeanor and intelligence.
Btw. I believe he was an avid softball player, and a pitcher. (John G. Lewis (talk) 04:15, 4 January 2018 (UTC))[reply]
