Sweet Calamus[edit]

The ingredients of the holy anointing oil are listed in English followed by the Hebrew word in parentheses. One ingredient, however, is listed not in English but in Hebrew in both the listing and in the parentheses. I have edited this error. But out of respect to those believing it to be cannabis, I included the link to Kaneh Bosem in the parentheses section. CWatchman (talk) 15:21, 27 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The most obvious sign that Sweet Calamus is a misidentification would be the effects of this plant on a human body. This is poison, plain and simple. Suggesting that this mistranslation is the real thing is dangerous and could lead to someone's poisoning with the substance.
"The most common side effect from calamus is vomiting. Fast heart rate and slowed intestinal movements have also been reported." -https://www.webmd.com/vitamins/ai/ingredientmono-778/calamus
"Calamus is LIKELY UNSAFE when taken by mouth. It can cause kidney damage, shaking, and seizures." -https://www.rxlist.com/calamus/supplements.htm#SideEffects
"However, because of toxicity and lack of clinical trials, no recommendations for use can be made. Use of calamus and its extracts is prohibited in the US." -https://www.drugs.com/npp/calamus.html Shawnee15 (talk) 02:19, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thaddeus mission to king Abgar[edit]

Has anyone located an Armenian source text from which this legend is based? Probably 12th century, probably not translated yet. I'd be grateful to be pointed in the right direction. 50.52.125.202 (talk) 05:23, 15 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Merge from Abramelin oil[edit]

This article appears to duplicate content better done here. This is just the same oil, variations on a theme, in an additional religion. Much of it is uncited, so I suggest the cited content be merged here. Skyerise (talk) 10:19, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
