Explanation[edit]

The term handicap used in greyhound racing is similar to horse racing in regard to an additional reason that will make it harder for the greyhound/horse to win the race. In greyhound racing instead of carrying extra weight (as they do in horse racing) the greyhound starts from a different starting position. Normally all six/eight greyhounds come out of the same traps.

In a handicap race the greyhounds start in individual traps placed at various metres (depending on their ability) in front of the fastest greyhound's trap (known as the scratch position). The scratch trap is placed in the normal starting position of a race. ApricotFoot (talk) 13:36, 12 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
