i just wanted to find out how access to fresh water can affect development and wealth of a country

Developement in this case does not mean only economic developement, but also social. Such as access to health care, education and others. GeoW 10:46, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Issues to come:

  • Access to food, education and shelter ( coming soon)
  • Industrialisation
  • Debt
  • Environmental Sustainability of development
  • Globalization

Taken out from the article. 121.6.191.121 14:17, 22 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

An exception is West/East Germany, and latin America. Germany is considered to have an HDI of .78, and is still an MDC. Communism, and loss of consumer goods brought the HDI down. Latin America has the same HDI, but is considered an LDC. Just something to think about!--70.123.100.93 (talk) 04:56, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have reverted the above and put it here as it is not really the place to discuss in the article. Also the Germany data needs to be verified with dates given. The comment about Latin America is difficult as I thought the HDI usually was used when refering to a country. Latin America is not a country. The same contributor also changed MEDC & LEDC to MDC and LDC. The more usual term is MEDC & LEDC with the E refering to Economically. Perhaps the HDI comments would be more relevant anyway on the HDI page. SuzanneKn (talk) 20:25, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
MEDC and LEDC imply an economistic approach to the development project. They are technically distinct from MDC and LDC which imply wider indicators of development. I think the Development geography page should avoid economism and therefore use MDC and LDC. --crafty bison —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.219.196.211 (talk) 09:25, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
