Extensive copy edit; many changes[edit]

I have gone through the article top to bottom, making many mostly small changes to fix grammar, spelling and punctuation, and to smooth and tighten the prose. (I did not make any changes to content or substance.) It should read much better now. However ...

This was my first substantial copy editing effort on Wikipedia. Although I think I did a good job, I'd appreciate it if someone could look over the changes I made, just to make sure I didn't screw anything up. Please don't hesitate to critique my work -- I'm a grizzled copy editing veteran who's used to getting lots of feedback, positive or negative.

Thanks in advance. Yesthatbruce (talk) 10:51, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi all! I added the "Back Posture" and "The Ears" sections under body language and communication. I also added the "Attack/Hunting Behavior" and "Post Hunting Behavior" under the predatory behavior section that needed a ton of work. I hope this clears up some issues! Daytime and nighttime sleep and activity patterns[edit]

I have just edited the section on sleeping behaviour because it did not make any sense.

It said: "Most cats sleep more as they age. This can explain why cats are crepuscular, mostly being active during the night."

The second sentence is simply a non-sequitur to what precedes it (it doesn't explain how the number of hours they sleep changes when they wake and sleep), and the word crepuscular does not mean active during the night but active during twilight.

I have replaced it according to what a quick look at the reference seems to actually say: that is, that cats tend to be adaptable as to when they sleep and wake.

However, I feel it could do with further attention as I am not able to access the entire reference, and it is a rather sweeping assertion to make on the basis of one tiny study! Among other things, the fact that a type of animal will generally adapt successfully to time-limited opportunities does not mean that it does not have strong natural preferences when free of these constraints, or that some types of constraint on the timings of its activity or rest will put it under stress.
